"It's really neat being able to diversify your workouts. Also, training with the group is a big, big part of what you're doing. If you didn't have the group, it wouldn't be the same."
--Kelly H.

What's the difference between the 6-week Boot Camp and the 4-week Fitness Session?
Well, the obvious answer is 2 weeks!! But the not so obvious answer is that Boot Camp is a more intense, concentrated program than the 4-week Fitness Session. Boot Camp workouts are six mornings a week, plus two mandatory evening workouts. Boot Camp also requires that you follow a diet plan (no sugar, no flour, no alcohol), turn in a food journal and do a weekly a weigh-in. The Fitness Sessions on other hand are more about maintenance and lifestyle. The workouts in the fitness session are just as intense as they are in boot camp, however they are only 5 days a week and the session does not require a mandatory diet. The 6 week Boot Camp is meant to get you in shape and the 4 week Fitness Session is meant to keep you in shape!

What if I can’t keep up?
Both the Boot Camp and the Fitness Sessions are divided into groups based on fitness levels. You will be placed in the appropriate group, working with other women of similar fitness levels. We offer three different levels—basic, intermediate and advanced. You are always encouraged to work at your own pace and nobody will be left behind.

What is a typical workout like?
The beautiful thing about a Moxy workout is that it’s not ‘typical’. Everyday is different and exciting, meant to keep your body guessing and never get into a comfort zone. Workouts are like you have never done before and can’t wait to do again. You can expect such things as: Running or Power-Walking (depending on what group you are in), hiking, snowshoeing, sprints, hill repeats, calisthenics, agility and balance drills, team building exercises, lunges, push-ups, squats, plank, sport cord exercises and, of course, during boot camp you will perform many intense exercises with the infamous “Moxy Handbag!”

Where do you meet?
At the beginning of each session you will be given a schedule for the month (or 6 weeks for boot camp), listing each days workout.

For the Tahoe program, workouts are generally held within a 5 mile radius of the “Y.” Some of our favorite spots are the High School Football Field, Camp Richardson, Fallen Leaf Lake, Sawmill Pond and the Bike Trail.

The Carson Valley locations will include among others, Johnson Lane, Lampe Park, Faye-Luther Trailhead and Pine Nuts.

When does it start?
See our Yearly Calendar to see when the next session begins. With the exception of the 6-week boot camp (offered three times per year), you can jump into the program at any time and just pay a pro-rated amount for the remainder of the session.

What should I bring?
We recommend that you dress for the weather, using layers to adjust for an
increase in body temperature as you start to exercise. On chilly mornings, a hat and a pair of gloves can make the difference between an enjoyable workout and a miserable one. It is also important to wear athletic shoes that give you quality support and bring some water to keep you hydrated.

I don’t want to wait until the next session begins, can I start now?
Yes, you can start in the middle of a 4-week Fitness Session at a pro-rated cost.

What do I do when the 4-week Fitness Session ends?
Most women enroll in the next session, and the next one, and the one after that! Even though the four weeks are referred to as ‘sessions’, Moxy is essentially designed as a lifestyle—grouping the weeks together into four week segments is just an easy way to account for everyone and keep everyone on the same schedule.

What do you do when it snows?
When the weather gets snowy—the Moxy girls go snowshoeing! Our workouts remain the same with the addition of snowshoes and an extra layer or two of clothing. We often find that snowy days make some of the best days for a workout. However, with an average of 300 days of sunshine a year, it is not often that the weather gets us down or shuts us out! But...on the days when the weather gets the upper hand, we do our workouts inside...and even that isn’t so bad!
