If you are like one of the many Americans that pledged to eat better in 2011, check out the Top Nutrition Tips of 2011.  Focus on one new tip each week, and you’ll be on your way to a healthy diet makeover.

Top Nutrition Tips of 2011

1.  Eat lots of fruits and veggies and be sure to combine fiber and protein at every meal and snack.

For example, try whole wheat pasta (fiber) with tomatoes, basil and grilled chicken (protein) for dinner.

2.  Eat small meals throughout the day, starting with breakfast.

Try eating 5-6 small meals throughout the day, instead of three large meals.

3.  Watch your portions and try eating on smaller-sized plates.

Try eating dinner on a salad plate instead of on a 12-inch dinner plate.

4.  Eat slowly and mindfully.

Pay attention to your internal hunger cues and stop eating when you are satisfied, before you are overly full.

5.  Hold yourself accountable by keeping a food diary and setting an exercise goal.

People successful at maintaining a healthy weight use a food diary to keep them on track.
